²³ “When he was 40 years old, he decided^[a] to visit his brothers, the descendants of Israel. ²⁴ When he saw one of them being mistreated, he defended him^[b] and avenged the man who was being mistreated by killing the Egyptian. ²⁵ He supposed that his brothers would understand that God was using him to rescue them, but they didn’t understand.
